Swan Upping

The uppers are always ready to talk about their work and to show people what they are doing - and many who see them have no idea what is going on.

Soon the recording and checks were over and the swans were taken back to the river.

And the uppers were off upstream. The family of swans is just visible, swimming happily close to the other bank of the Thames.

I was hot and tired and the bottom bracket of my bike that had brought me along the towpath was making some very nasty creaking noises and the pedals were sticking, so I left the uppers to go home. Perhaps one year I'll follow them for rather more of their five day journey up the river to Abingdon.
