Aylesbury Estate Occupiers Move

Chartridge & Chiltern, Aylesbury Estate, London. Thur 5 Mar 2015

Southwark Council is spending a small fortune on bulding barriers around the empty block to keep out occupiers

But the gate to Chiltern was still open

and around a dozen of the flats are still homes for estate residents

At Chartridge, police and council staff look down as occupiers move belongs out to the recenly occupied Chiltern

Posters about the destruction of good housing on the Aylesbury Estate by Southwark Council

Dog Handlers and security men on the walkway at Chartridge

A trolley outside the occupied area at the base of Chiltern. This was offices and community space, not residential

There is a small exhibition outside about the selling off of public housing for private development

and people stop to read about the scandal of destruction of public housing under the guise of 'regeneration'

Protesters put up a banner 'Public Housing not Private Profit'. They told us after we had taken pictures
that they did not want to be photographed but they are not recognisable in theis image

Or in this one

We went up to the walkway to take photographs

Most of the flats were boarded up but some still seemed to be in use

Police came and knocked on the door while we were on the walkway

and surprisingly someone opened the door to them, but quickly closed it when they saw who was there

This was all we were allowed to see of the occupation
