Matrimony Place was one of those names that caught my eye on a map and I just had to go there. It leads off the south side of Wandsworth Road, a failry narrow gap between 579 and 581, and leads up into the churchyard of St Paul's Clapham, where presumably the offence of matrimony could be committed. There is a Community garden in the churchyard, named the Eden Garden, so matrimony leads to paradise. I had a rather curious encounter with a woman there, but can remember none of the details.

St Paul's was the site of Clapham's first parish church, before Holy Trinity was built. It was demolished in 1815 and a new rather plain replacement built as a 'chapel of ease', and was enlarged later in the century.
