The bridge now carries the Overground line from Richmond to Willesden Junction station a short distance to the north. For years this was the North London Line, from Richmond to Broad Street, and after that station was demolished, to North Woolwich. I often used the line when going to photograph areas of London.

Like Willesden Junction station, I suppose this bridge is actually in Harlesden at the left-hand end, with the towpath south of the canal from where I made this picture being in North Action. The canal here is the 'Paddington Arm' opened in 1801 and connects with the main canal line from Brentford at Bull's Bridge southwest of Southall. Close to its eastern end it connects with the Regent's Canal at Little Venice. Unusually for a canal there are no locks at all on its 13.5 miles.
