High fencing around the dock areas on both sides of the road gave Woolwich Manor Way a very austere appearance, but was not uncommon in the docks. At least when walking you could peer between the palings on the left hand side, towards the Albert and King George V docks, still just in business when I took this picture, with the last cargo leaving in December 1981.
 
I liked the delicate structure of the tall lighting post. These lamp posts and fences have now gone, the posts still tall but rather more plain and functional. And as you walk your ears will be assaulted every few minutes by planes landing or taking off from London City Airport.
