The first railway bridge across Deptford Creek was built in 1836, and replaced in 1884. I think both were draw bridge designs to allow navigation past the bridge up the creek. Their replacement in 1994 was the current lift bridge, from which I took these pictures as my train crossed. Back in 1982 trains had windows you could open to take photographs from.

This lifting bridge can no longer lift as it has been welded in place, so taller vessels can no longer navigate upstream. The counterbalance weights have also been removed. The creek remains navigable as far as Deptford Bridge.
