Coaches were organised by churches from all over the country, bringing people to Birmingham to form the six or seven mile human chain. Everywhere I saw it was at least 3 or 4 people deep. Various events were organised, including
speeches by Ann Pettifor of Jubilee2000 and Claire Short, the Minister for Overseas Development. At the last
minute the G8 leaders decided to leave Birmingham (possibly for security reasons) for the day, much to the annoyance of
the demonstrators. However Tony Blair flew back to meet with the leaders of Jubilee2000 as the demonstrators flooded back to their coaches.
