No forced removal - Kurds in Home Office Vigil

Home Office, Marsham St, London. Thursday 11 Sept, 2008

Kurds outside the Home Office in Marsham St - with placards and candles for Hussein Ali and Mohammad Hussein

Two police kept an eye on the demonstrators - and more of an eye on the photographers

Perhaps this is meant to represent the many hurdles that asylum seekers are forced to jump over by the Home Office?

On the pavement is an inscription about British freedoms, part of a continuing public art work, selected from short statements sent in by the public in a project intentended to continue for 25 years . Few if any of which apply to asylum seekers, and they are increasingly being eroded for those of us who are British. Perhaps I should send in my contribution for next year "Because I am British I keep having to show my ID to the police and am likely to be stopped and searched without good reason while doing my job." But that might just be seen as critical of the Home Office - one of the things that is disallowed!
