Devon/Dorset Holiday

Rousdon to Beer, 16 Jul 2014

Despite the rain, we decided to walk to Seaton

Mostly we were walking along a narrow lane. I think we saw a single vehicle in an hour

There were a few houses at a couple of points on the way

but mainly just fields. Most of the time were were in clouds rather than real rain

Here we turned off into a green lane

A clear path through a field

This is Axe Cliff golf club

 The River Axe

Axmouth Old Bridge is a scheduled ancient monument. Built in 1877 it is the oldest standing concrete bridge England

Huts on the prom in Seaton

It was cold and wet and we were bery disappointed to find the Chine cafe closed

We climbed up through the mist

The Check House, Grade II listed, now a care home was built in 1866 for Sir William Calverly Trevelyan and his wife

Pauline, who entertained many famous Victorians here

Again we had to follow a diversion because the cliff path was unsafe,
but after a mile or so we were back on the cliffs, though the sea was invisible
