The corner of Ilbert Street and Kilburn Lane has changed very little since I made this picture in 1981, though the shops have changed hands.

The large advertising board on the side has gone, and the painted sign on the house wall, which I think read KODAK ILFORD OSRAM LAMPS has I think faded beyond legibility or been painted over, but fading has also revealed two lines of writing in the darker area above, perhaps ..OOLLONS.

This was Woollons chemists and photographic shop, opened by Charles H. F. Woollons, MPS, probably around 1900. His son who continued in business also owned a branch at 256 Hendon Way, run by his partner Leopold Barnato. The partnership was dissolved when Charles Bertram Woollons retired in 1954 and the business continued by Barnato as the photographic firm 'Woollons of Hendon'. The next door address was earlier listed as 'Woollons' Cine Service'. The shop at 256 is now a tailoring and alteration shop, though the business is still listed in various directories and has an address in Kingshill Avenue, Harrow it no longer seems to be trading.
